First, you are allowed to freely browse the cards in recognition mode (it shows you a word, and you flip the card to reveal the definition and a photo). I’ve found that hearing the pronunciation as I study the card increases my retention rate, and also helps to build the sound-meaning connection, which is crucial for listening comprehension.īyki moves you through 3 stages of reviewing the cards. Bykiīyki is available as desktop software and as a more limited iphone app. The problem is that there isn't a good way to define words automatically in Anki and there isn't a good way to batch import already defined words into it.Įdit: To be fair, I don't mind going one by one with Fluentcards, but I can't get behind the incomplete dictionary, it's extremely lacking. Before I discuss my favorite vocabulary trainer Anki, let me at least mention a few other flashcard systems out there, and why I mostly prefer using Anki. I don't care if it's gonna be through Anki going one by one as they come to me, or if it's gonna be through batch importing from some other program after I've accumulated some. What I need is a way to store words I want to learn into flashcards with their definition. Apart from the dictionary it uses being pretty bad, showing incomplete definitions. Then I tried Fluentcards but it only does single words with the browser extension and I don't always find words in the browser, which means I have to save them somewhere then go clicking one by one. Then I tried EasyDefine exporting to flashcard but I can't get Anki to read it, it just shows HTML tags everywhere. Then I tried AutoDefine but the formatting from the merriam webster API is absolutely atrocious and all over the place with pronunciation in the question, questions not appearing, etc. They show some English dictionaries but they don't come installed and I need online dictionaries, I can't even find those.
